Trick - Converting Excel File

The Basics:

Although we recommend that you have an IT technician convert excel files to tab or comma delimited files for you, you may have no choice but to do this conversion yourself. In this case, please follow the steps below to convert an excel file into a tab delimited file.

First, open your student data file in Excel.

Locate the student data file on your computer and double click on it to open it up. Once open, excel should display all of your student data.

Second, convert your file.

Converting your file is as simple as saving your file in an approved format. For student/athlete importing, you will want to save your file in either a Text (Tab delimited file)(*.txt) or Comma Separated Value (*.csv) file.

  1. Click 'File'...
  2. ...'Save As'...
  3. ...choose a location and either the .txt or .csv file type...
  4. ...(possibly) receive a warning from Excel alerting you about multiple sheet workbooks and click 'OK'...
  5. ...click 'Yes' on the compatibility warning tab.

Third, verify output file contents.

Excel should output the file in a format readable by C2Cschools.com. You may want to open the file in a text editor, such as notepad, to verify the file contents.
